This week, I watched a movie on DVD that I've been meaning to watch. A movie trailer on another DVD gave my memory a jog and reminded me that I hadn't seen it. The movie: Death at a Funeral...
There were basically three reasons why I wanted to watch Death at a Funeral in the first place. Firstly, it has a fantastic lineup of actors, many of them familiar favorites of mine. Secondly, it just looked interesting and funny. And thirdly, I seemed to recall that there was a bit of controversy over Frank Oz's casting of Peter Dinklage as a 'gay dwarf'.
Having watched the film, I can assure you, (at least from my perspective) that the controversy was highly overrated. Peter as usual was brilliant and a fantastic choice for the character he played.
The basic synopsis: As the mourners and guests at a British country manor struggle valiantly to "keep a stiff upper lip" a dignified ceremony devolves into a hilarious no-holds-barred debacle of misplaced cadavers indecent exposure and shocking family secrets -- especially family 'gay secrets'...
Death at a Funeral features the talents of: Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes, Andy Nyman, Ewen Bremner, Daisy Donovan, Alan Tudyk, Jane Asher, Kris Marshall, Rupert Graves, Peter Vaughan, Thomas Wheatley, Peter Egan, Peter Dinklage, Brendan O'Hea, Jeremy Booth, Angela Curran, and Gareth Milne. As I said earlier, a great cast.
As far as I'm concerned, Frank Oz has done it again – come up with a highly entertaining and fast paced comedy! My partner and I really enjoyed watching Death at a Funeral and laughed ourselves hoarse! If you watch this movie, be sure to watch it right from the beginning and all the way to the very last end credit, as there's some cool and clever animation to be seen as well.
