Kidnapping Case Breakthrough In Long-running Miller-Jenkins Custody Battle As FBI Arrest Man in Connection With Aiding "Ex-lesbian" Lisa Miller, flee U.S. and Keep Daughter from Former Partner.
There has been an arrest by the FBI in the custody case involving former civil union partners Janet Jenkins and Lisa Miller, and their daughter, Isabella Miller-Jenkins. The arrest by the FBI took place on Monday in Alexandria, Virginia. The person arrested is one Timothy David Miller, a Amish-Mennonite pastor from Tennessee who was pastor of a church in Managua, Nicaragua that is connected to Christian Aid Ministries. It’s not known at this time if Timothy Miller is related to Lisa Miller.
The offense in the criminal complaint against Mr Miller for which he was arrested is: “Aiding in the removing of a child from the United States, and retaining a child (who has been in the United States) outside of the United States with intent to obstruct the lawful exercise of parental rights.”
Lisa Miller did not comply with a court order to transfer custody of Isabella to Janet on January 1, 2010. Instead, she fled the U.S. in September of 2009 with Isabella, first going to Toronto, Ontario before flying to Mexico, whereupon she made her way to El Salvador and then on to Nicaragua. Last year it was speculated that she had fled to El Salvador. It is believed that Lisa Miller and Isabella are currently being hid in Nicaragua at the home of a wealthy "Liberty Leader" and direct response mailer by the name of Philip Zodhiates.
The Advocate reports: “Reached by phone on Friday, Zohidates told The Advocate that while he was aware of the Lisa Miller case via news reports, he said that Miller and her daughter were not living at his house in Nicaragua. ‘That’s absolutely absurd,’ Zohidates said before hanging up.”
In a statement from her home in Vermont, Janet Jenkins said, “I’m grateful to everyone in law enforcement for working so hard on finding my daughter, as well as to my attorney, Sarah Star. I know very little at this point, but I really hope that this means that Isabella is safe and well. I am looking forward to having my daughter home safe with me very soon.”
Attorney Sarah Star of Middlebury, who has been representing Janet, said, “It is clear that the government has been working hard on this. Janet is very pleased and we are both hopeful that this will be a step in the right direction of bringing Isabella home. At this point we need to let law enforcement do their work, and recognize that there are still steps to go.”
Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders has represented Janet at the appellate level in Vermont; Lambda Legal has represented Janet at the appellate level in Virginia.
Mr. Miller will make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont in Burlington on Monday, April 25, 2011.
In the meantime, Right Wing Watch reports that Matt Barber, Liberty Counsel’s Director of Cultural Affairs, claims Isabella Miller will become a "Trophy Child" for "The Gay Agenda."
